High School As A Bubble

Found some old pictures yesterday. Becky and I spent some time looking at
them and decided to have them at the reunion. Lots of pics of
football and football parties. Remember the parties after football season?
You are in alot of them. Also found one of you, Becky, Larry, Janet Hodges, Ray
Taylor & Ann Lee. Looks like you were all at the fair. Very
cute. One of senior football players at party. Sad when thought of
ones missing now, but then Ithought of all the fun we had in our lives and
how grateful we all are to have grown up in Dunn. How we lived in a
bubble. Absolutely.

Now, that is an article title; High School: Living in a bubble. It is exactly what it was. When I think of all the heavy social issues like race, drugs, ad infinitum and then think of our High School years, it was mostly fun; the issues of breakups, tests at school, all those heavy issues were what we were doing.

I was telling Lupe, Meg's 12 year old, recently of sitting and waiting for baseball to start: I was in my Dad's 52 Chevy and it was before school started and we were having two practices a day; I would get there early, like six thirty and practice started at seven or something like that and I would listen to Elvis on the radio: Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel and watch the clock and dread what was to follow. Yet, great memories. Nothing like it.

Our reunion is drawing near, and I do so hope people have responded by now so Wilma is not so nervous. Is Jackie coming with you? It will be such fun to see everyone. Still can't get my mind around the fact that it's been 50 years! . I like the bubble idea. I am thankful for every day that I can still get around!
